Date format? Incorrect date

Is there a specific format that the date will be returned in? We have had some that return things like "June 8, 2011". Though this url: http://feeds.washingtonpost.com/click.phdo?i=011569ac585d21685237db2a15ad4cbc
returned:
"date"=>"5 Seconds 00:00 00:00"
which doesn't seem right
