Making my diffbot reader public
  • Stephen December 2010

First, I have been using every kind of reader there has been, I am sure. And, before the Web, it was the great newsgroup feeds that so many readers did a great job with. However, bar none, diffbot, even with its quirks is my favorite. And, I won't list the many reasons here.

Please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered, it so, I just must be missing the question.

As part of some bios, I would like to be able to give out a diffbot URL so that others may see (ONLY) what I am interested in and how that follows with what I tend to post on my blogs about.

Is there a link that would give someone reading access only? I am guessing, if possible, something like:
http://www.stephencarey.diffbot.com is there a chance that this feature will be coming or is it here and now I am embarrassed?

Thank you for your assistance, and , once again, congratulations on diffbot beta. I can see it will keep getting more sophisticated, yet, an easy access program for those new to using readers.

Hi Stephen. We don't have a feature that's exactly like that, but we do have a feature for creating public topics, which is kind of similar.

You can simply go to http://www.diffbot.com/topic/StephenCarey (or substituting whatever topic name you like) and add sources to that topic. That topic then becomes visible to anyone. We might implement something like what you're suggesting in the future, but for now, this strikes a balance of letting you hand-pick which sources to share, instead of sharing everything in your account, some of which you might want to keep private.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you, actually, I like what you have now much better, for some of what I have in my diffbot (what is it really called, for it is so much more than an on-line reader)?

If I read this correctly, I go to my main page and somehow create a topic, lets say, fish of the super deep, and then I add the Web pages or articles I find on that topic to where ever one stores a topic. I then give them the link and they can read. BUT, if I don't want them to be able to add or delete, is this the way to go? It is just a bit like Evernote, when one wants to share a "notebook." I love that program, but, it, for me, is so much different than diffbot. diffbot is just so classy, pretty easy to use, and, if it is a bit hard to learn, that is fine. We do not need everything done for us. I am afraid that we will forget how to handle learning new things.

    To wrap up:
    1) I create a topic when I am in my diffbot reader, whatever. I just don't see it as a bookmark program, or, maybe I don't know how to make it work like one in an efficient manner.

    2) I place the Web sites for this topic in some are that I have named whatever.

    3) I send out the URL http://www.diffbot.com/fishfromthedeep/StephenCarey

    4) To those people I send the above link, they can see what I have found, but they CAN NOT delete or add to the topic.

Is that pretty much how I do this? Not too hard. I really do like the idea of only sharing topics. It keeps my diffbot mine, if that makes sense.

    Thank you,

    Stephen Carey

I am sorry, one last (I hope) question: is it possible to drag and drop, or just copy the URL or the page from my normal diffbot to a topic, or do I just write the URL into the topic page? Sorry for what must seem silly questions, to see why I am a bit off, just head to www.stephencarey.com. Some days are better than others.

    Thank you,

    Stephen Carey

Sorry, no drag-and-drop feature yet. For now, you just have to copy-and-paste the URLs you want to put into your topic page..
