questions about feeds
  • sales September 2010

    1. how long does it take before a feed shows up? (for the first time)
    2. How do you get a feed to look nice and organized? Mine looks a hot mess.
    3. Your help pages are leading to a 404 error :-(

    1. usually it will be within the hour. at worst, 24 hours.

    2. do you have an example of a feed that looks like a hot mess? perhaps we can help you.

    3. we must have the wrong link attached to the help page. where are you seeing this? i'll fix it asap once i know where you found it.

This one came out fine, and I want my feed to look somewhat like this: http://www.bonanza.com:80/booths/MrsBargains

This is the one that has come out all over the place, things are not matching etc:

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, some setting etc?

The help link is the one at the top of this page: http://www.diffbot.com/apps/feedbeater/

diffbot by default takes most changes it finds on a page and inserts them into a feed. you can customize what parts of the page are watched for changes by adding filters and rules to your feed. have you logged in and tried that?

thanks for noticing the help link, i have updated it!

yes, and I have highlighted parts etc. but the feed is all mixed up, titles are not with their pictures things are mismatched that go together

  • sales September 2010

can it all be scrapped and start brand new? I tried to delete and redo, but the old stuff was still there.

  • eleith September 2010

do you have the link to your RSS feed that you created?

ideally if you deleted your custom RSS feed, the old data should go away with it, i'll have to look into it to see why it is still there.

looking at the website, it seems like getting a perfect looking feed will be a bit difficult though. what is your goal? are you trying to build a feed of items that appear on that page?

    eleith,
thank you for your help, I see that one of the problems is that the feeds are not updated since the 27th. (it's taking a little longer than the 24 hrs you stated above) But I am being patient, and taking it slowly. I am getting the hang of this and I am just selecting only the parts of the site that I want to be on the rss. My goal is to get at least item title, picture and a description. I think it is starting to come together. But it just seems to be on the slow side. I will let you know if I run into any more issues.

one of our servers was down for a couple of days, this might add to the slowness you are seeing. if you are still seeing this latency next week, let me know. our goal is to have 24 hours be the hard limit when polling for changes.
