I ticked "delete" but there was no change and no message asking to confirm. I have "disabled" the alert and this seems to have worked but how do you actually delete an alert?

once you tick 'delete' click on the black delete button on the top of that row.

this allows you to delete more than one alert at a time. though as i look at it now, it does look confusing. i'll look into improving it.

Cheers Eleith! It's obvious now you point it out :-)

As you can guess, I thought the black "delete" button was just the label for that column.

I see that the title "Delete all checked items" appears when I hover over it.

If changing the wording on the button messes up the design, maybe an instruction near the table would suffice?
